Taylor’s Story | July 4th Styled Portraits

Things behind the scenes at Traci Sproule Photography have been just a little bit different this year. I have interns, y’all! Taylor and her sister have been incredibly helpful. They serve as models to set up lighting. They hold the off-camera lights during sessions and they help with lots of different tasks at on-location portrait sessions. They’ve been AWESOME! So when I wanted to create a series of July 4th styled portraits, Taylor was super happy to help.

Styling A Senior Portrait Session

I love a good custom-styled senior portrait session. And I really love an inspired portrait session. A regular portrait session is all about you, and telling your unique story. But an inspired session is really prompted by something outside yourself that is meaningful to you. That inspiration may come from a favorite television show or movie. It could be inspired by a favorite color or season.

Heading into the Independence Day weekend, I was inspired by patriotic colors, sunny summer days and fun! I couldn’t wait to bring this inspiration to life in a totally fun series of images.

July 4th Styled Portraits

Taylor and I had an awful lot of fun planning these portraits. We collaborated on wardrobe, accessories and even props! Props are great additions to a portrait session. They help tell the story, make your images really pop and they give you something to do with your hands.

Taylor’s Starbucks Guava Iced Tea was an accidental prop. (We stopped for caffeine before we got started – which is a recurring theme with my seniors – LOL). But that iconic cup with the pop of red guava juice was so perfect, we had to include it. It totally fits Taylor’s story, too. She spent several months working as a Starbucks barista – holla!

This whole session was just so much fun. A bright, sunny South Florida afternoon, a perfectly styled portrait session and an intern who loves creating portrait images. I love days like this!

Signature Touches

We actually incorporated a couple of my signature touches into this session, and Taylor was really gracious to help me create a session that reflected some of my favorites. If you’ve been on a session with me, or you spend any time around me at all, you’ll recognize my signature Converse tennis shoes. And you know I’ve gotta have my icy cold Coca-Cola! I brought a cooler so we could both enjoy one!
