Teen Trash the Dress Session
So whats a Trash the Dress session anyway? Many brides will choose this option after the wedding day. Why? This is a great way to capture amazing portraits in locations they would never have been comfortable navigating on their wedding day.
Despite the concept title, a session like this is really less about “trashing” a gown, and honestly more about actually preserving your dress.
Preserving a Dress in Portraits
How’s that? Preserving a dress by messing it up? Well…maybe.
See here’s the thing. You can preserve a dress the traditional way. That means carefully wrapping it in layers of tissue paper and special plastic, artfully storing it in an archival box. That box will sit in a closet corner for a couple of decades. I promise you. That’s what mine did. It will certainly be “preserved”. But how much enjoyment will you get out of it?
A much better idea for preserving your dress, whether it’s a wedding dress or a prom dress or the snazzy little number you picked up for Homecoming, is this. Let’s take it out for a dedicated portrait session to a really fun location and shoot a series of “I can’t believe I’m having this much fun” portraits in it. You’ll have a blast, and the images you capture will be displayed for years and years to come. You can relive those memories every time you walk past that portrait on your wall. THAT is a type of preservation I can get behind.
