Tyler’s Story | Choosing Clothes for a Senior Portrait Session

Tyler wanted a senior story session that showcased his time with the Eagles varsity football team. He also wanted beach portraits (as South Florida seniors often do). Choosing clothes for a senior portrait session like this should have been fairly straight-forward:

• Football = Jersey
• Beach = Something Beachy

Good to go.

So…I met Tyler and his mom at his football field right after practice. And I loved his football portraits, y’all.

Choosing Clothes for Sports Portraits

If you play sports, snag your uniform or jersey and pair it with jeans or khakis or (in the Florida heat) shorts. This is an easy way to show off a big part of your senior story.

Football = check.

Choosing Clothes for Beach Portraits

With the sports part of the story captured, we were ready to head over to Jupiter Beach Inlet for the second half of Tyler’s session. It was time for a wardrobe change. And this conversation happened:

Tyler’s Mom: “Where is the shirt I ironed for you this morning?”

Tyler: “It’s right here in my football bag!”

Me: “Danger, Will Robinson!”

Yeah. Um. A note to my seniors: Moms do not want photos of wrinkles in shirts. Be advised.

The original shirt was a no-go. But here at Traci Sproule Photography we are nothing if not flexible. We swung by Ocean Magic Surf Shop and spent a few minutes choosing the perfect replacement wardrobe for beach portraits. And it ROCKED!

Actually, for me, it was really cool getting to be so hands-on with choosing clothes for a portrait session.

We kind of broke one of my guidelines (go for solid colors), but the woven pullover that Tyler chose in shades of blue and gray was so very perfect. LOVE!

Jupiter Inlet gave us perfect light and beautiful sunset colors. Just like that, Tyler had checked the box for senior portraits.

But his senior year memories will last a lifetime. Those senior portrait memories will be carefully crafted into senior year magazines, and photo print wall displays. And they will be remembered.
